First Weekend of Spring – 1-2 September
Jazz in Martinborough returns in 2023 with two special shows in the Martinborough Town Hall at
the Waihenga Centre and a few free gigs around the town.
Headline acts this year feature the “mystical” and “astonishing” Lucien Johnson Quartet, winner
of the ApraAmcos Jazz Composer of the year; and the return to Martinborough of an old
favourite The Nairobi Trio.
Friday Night – Nairobi Trio
Terrific! Nairobi Trio is returning to Martinborough. Our Friday night show features this world-renown, fabulous band of home-grown musicians and composers. Thirty five years touring and performing across the globe in all manner of settings from village halls, theatres and festivals has honed their skills; they will deliver an entertaining, engaging live show. They bring a breadth of repertoire, dynamic delivery and professional approach to every performance.
Saturday Night – Lucien Johnson Quartet
Lucien Johnson’s latest album has been described as “mystical” . . .” lyrical” . . . “bewitching and astonishing”. His live performances are no less mesmerising and illuminating. A standout musical talent, ApraAmcos Jazz Composer of the year, and not to be missed – live, in Martinborough, at Jazz in Martinborough 2023.
