Hinakura 100

January 8, 2022

Ten years after it was first created, we’re bringing Hinekura 100 back for the Gravel Fondo in Jan 2022.
This route has more sealed sections than Remutaka Gravel Fondo and more distance than Akatarawa Gravel Fondo. 100 mile and 100 km route options starting and finishing in Martinborough with an ascent of the infamous Admiral’s Hill, stunning gravel sections, and an out and back to the coast at Pahaoa (100 miler option only).
This ride is a social event with the emphasis on exploring your backyard with mates and/or making new mates. You are welcome to ride as hard as you like for Strava glory. There are no ride results. All roads are open. You must be self sufficient. We will provide a bag drop at the junction of Hinekura and Pahaoa (approx 70km in for the 100km and 100/130km for the 100 miler – you pass that junction twice).
This is a rural ride with very limited options for food/repairs en route (basically, none aside from your bag drop). You need to download the route on your GPS, there is no route signage for the ride.
We will aim to have a female ride leader for both distances for ladies who would like to ride together.
It’s about a fun challenging day out so we will run it on Sat 8th Jan 2022 but also have the option to bump it to Sun 9th Jan if the weather is super grotty on the Sat. We have also moved it to early Jan this year to allow those riders preparing for Kopiko Aotearoa to join in.
The ride is free. If you want to provide a koha, bring a painted stone for my toddler co-organiser.
The event can run at Alert Level 1 and 2. It’s pretty easy to socially distance on this one LOL.
