Ata Rangi Vineyard
“Not to drop by Ata Rangi on a visit to Martinborough would be akin to visiting the Louvre and missing the Mona Lisa. Ata Rangi has every right to consider itself one of New Zealand’s finest wineries.” Gourmet Traveller Wine
Ata Rangi is a small New Zealand winery with a big reputation for serious Pinot Noir. It is owned and managed by a family trio; Clive Paton, his wife Phyll and his sister Alison. Clive planted his first vines on a stony sheep paddock at the edge of the Martinborough village in 1980 as one of a handful of people who pioneered winegrowing in the area. Ata Rangi Pinot Noir is undoubtedly the flagship wine, and in 2010 was honoured with the inaugural Tipuranga Teitei o Aotearoa or “Grand Cru of Aotearoa”. With a dedicated team in place, including dynamo winemaker Helen Masters, Clive’s focus has moved to his huge commitment to conservation. The rustic cellar door is relaxed and welcoming, with friendly, knowledgeable staff on hand to guide you through the wines and assist in shipping wines to your home, whether in NZ or abroad.
Ata Rangi is the crowned king of New Zealand Pinot Noir. It has been making stunning wine for a long time; experience, vine age and a great vineyard site giving a competitive edge. Decanter Magazine, July 2011
When I asked winemakers to name New Zealand’s greatest producers, one name kept coming up: Ata Rangi, meaning ˜new beginning’. Robert Parker website
Ata Rangi Cellar Door is Open on weekdays 1.00pm to 3.00pm.
Weekends & Holidays 12.00pm to 4.00pm
